NAD: dehydrogenases
NAD: dehydrogenases — mechanism card
- Drives glycolysis and the TCA (tricarboxylic acid) cycle
- NADH feeds the electron transport chain → ATP
- Derived from niacin (vitamin B3)
- Niacin → NAD⁺, the hydride acceptor of catabolism (glycolysis, TCA, beta-oxidation)
- Pellagra = the systemic failure of that electron bookkeeping
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- NAD — Niacin-derived coenzyme central to cellular redox reactions; also consumed by enzymes involved in DNA repair and signaling.
