Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase inhibitor
Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase inhibitor — mechanism card
- ↑ intracellular sodium → ↓ Na⁺/Ca²⁺ exchange → ↑ intracellular calcium/inotropy
- Also slows AV conduction
- Hypokalemia increases target binding/toxicity
- Toxicity: nausea, yellow-green vision, arrhythmias
- Raises intracellular calcium — positive inotropy
- Narrow therapeutic index; toxicity worsened by hypokalemia
- Slows AV conduction
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Digoxin — Na/K-ATPase inhibitor for heart failure and rate control; narrow index, classic.
