- Located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus and cortex
- Modulates circadian timing/phase shifting
- Also implicated in thermoregulation and mood
- Involved in circadian phase shifting
- No selective 5-HT7 agonists are available for clinical use The blue line pattern represents a neurofibrillary tangle made of tau protein. There is an apparent causal link between constitutive 5-HT7 receptor activity and pathological aggregation of tau protein, associated with Alzheimer’s disease or frontotemporal dementia. Serotonergic mechanisms have not been implicated with increased dementia risk.
