STRATTERA
Pronunciation: AT-oe-mox-e-teen (stra-TAIR-a)

What it isNorepinephrine-predominant reuptake inhibitor with weaker serotonin activity; nonstimulant treatment of ADHD.
Why this oneIt is neither controlled nor readily misused, making it useful when diversion or stimulant use is a concern.
What limits itOnset is slow; CYP2D6 inhibition or poor metabolism markedly raises exposure, and pediatric suicidality is boxed.

Defining liabilityBlood-pressure/heart-rate increases, rare hepatic injury and suicidal-thinking warning in younger patients.
This drug is routinely called serotonergic. By Gillman’s human-effect criteria it does not raise serotonin in the synapse.
No clinically meaningful serotonin-elevating mechanism identified in this first-pass Gillman-based review.
Label contraindicationMAOIs (concurrently or within 14 days). The label governs prescribing; Gillman’s point concerns serotonin toxicity only.
It binds the serotonin transporter, and its SERT peg is drawn to that textbook affinity. The pale halo around the peg marks binding that, by Gillman’s human-effect criteria, does not produce clinical serotonin reuptake inhibition.
Gillman’s four human testsA measurable SERT affinity that fails all four is not clinical serotonicity.
Non-elevating actionNone recorded
