- Vitamin K is not recycled
- Progressive depletion of factors II, VII, IX, X → anticoagulation
- Dietary vitamin K opposes it
- VKORC1 genotype shifts dose requirements
- Early protein C depletion → transient hypercoagulability, skin necrosis
- Reversed by vitamin K
