URAT1 inhibitor
URAT1 urate transporter inhibitor
URAT1 inhibitor — mechanism card
- ↓ renal urate reabsorption
- ↑ urinary uric-acid excretion → lowers serum urate
- Uricosuria raises kidney-stone risk — hydrate and alkalinize
- Increases renal uric acid excretion
- Ineffective in renal impairment; raises stone risk
- Blocks tubular secretion of many drugs
Drugs with this mechanism (2)
- Lesinurad — Uricosuric add-on to a xanthine oxidase inhibitor for gout; kidney-injury risk and discontinued U.S. marketing.
- Probenecid — Uricosuric for gout; also blocks renal drug excretion (used to boost antibiotics).
