SNARE-mediated ACh release inhibitor
SNARE-mediated ACh release inhibitor — mechanism card
- Cleaves presynaptic SNARE proteins → acetylcholine vesicles cannot fuse and release
- Local chemodenervation for dystonia, spasticity and cosmesis
- Distant spread can impair swallowing/breathing
- Cleaves SNARE proteins, blocking acetylcholine release — botulinum
- Effect lasts about three months
- Distant spread can cause dysphagia and respiratory weakness
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Botulinum toxin — Blocks acetylcholine release; therapeutic for spasticity and cosmetic wrinkles.
