Heparin sequestrant
Heparin sequestrant — mechanism card
- Positive charge binds and neutralizes negatively charged heparin
- Immediate reversal of unfractionated heparin anticoagulation
- Reversal is only partial for low-molecular-weight heparins
- Binds heparin, reversing anticoagulation
- Reversal is incomplete for low molecular weight heparins
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Protamine sulfate — Rapid heparin-reversal agent; excess dosing can itself impair coagulation.
