Antifibrinolytic
Plasminogen lysine-site blocker (antifibrinolytic)
Antifibrinolytic — mechanism card
- ↓ plasminogen binding to fibrin → the clot is preserved
- ↓ surgical, trauma and menstrual bleeding
- Excess inhibition → thrombosis risk
- Blocks plasminogen binding to fibrin — reduces bleeding
- Thrombosis risk; caution with hematuria
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Tranexamic acid — Antifibrinolytic that blocks plasminogen binding to fibrin; trauma, menorrhagia, surgery.
