Kv1 blocker
Kv1 potassium channel blocker
Kv1 blocker — mechanism card
- Prolongs the action potential
- ↑ calcium entry and acetylcholine release → improves neuromuscular transmission (LEMS)
- Excess CNS excitation lowers the seizure threshold
- Restores conduction in demyelinated axons → improved walking in MS
- Improves neuromuscular transmission in conditions with impaired synaptic function
- May cause seizure in healthy individuals due to excessive neurotransmitter release Kv1
Drugs with this mechanism (2)
- Amifampridine — Potassium-channel blocker for Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome.
- Dalfampridine — Potassium-channel blocker that improves walking in multiple sclerosis.
