FcRn antagonist
Neonatal Fc receptor antagonist
FcRn antagonist — mechanism card
- FcRn normally recycles IgG back into circulation
- IgG — including pathogenic autoantibodies — is cleared faster
- Lowers protective IgG too → infection monitoring
- Accelerates IgG clearance — myasthenia gravis
- Lowers all IgG, including protective antibody
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Efgartigimod — FcRn antagonist that clears pathogenic IgG in generalized myasthenia gravis; benefit is cyclical.
