FAD cofactor: MAO
FAD cofactor: MAO — mechanism card
- Required for degradation of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin
- The flavin is the site attacked by irreversible MAO inhibitors
- Monoamine oxidase is a flavoprotein: FAD accepts the electrons when MAO-A/B deaminate serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine
Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- FAD — Riboflavin-derived redox cofactor; transfers electrons in fatty-acid oxidation and mitochondrial energy production.
