- Stimulates red-cell production — treats anemia of renal failure and chemotherapy
- Pushing hemoglobin high → hypertension and thrombosis
- Stimulates red cell production in renal anemia
- Thrombosis and hypertension when hemoglobin is over-corrected

- Darbepoetin alfa — Long-acting erythropoietin-receptor agonist; fewer injections than epoetin.
- Epoetin alfa — Recombinant EPO for renal and chemo anemia; do not chase a normal hemoglobin.
