Edetate calcium disodium

CALCIUM DISODIUM VERSENATE

Edetate calcium disodium ballicule: receptor binding, kinetics and half-life diagram
Mechanism of action: Edetate calcium disodium ballicule

What it isCalcium disodium EDTA; lead poisoning.

Why this oneIt chelates lead without stripping calcium, which the disodium salt fatally does.

What limits it⚑ Disodium EDTA given by mistake causes fatal hypocalcemia — the names are dangerously similar. Nephrotoxic; it can redistribute lead to the brain without BAL.

FDA label

BOXED WARNING Capable of fatal toxic effects; lead encephalopathy/cerebral edema may cause lethal increased intracranial pressure with IV — IM route preferred; do not exceed recommended daily dose.
